Therapy is a scary thought for some. The idea that you will have to speak to a stranger about what’s going on in your life. The cost for the services each session. What some people may think about you if they knew you were in therapy. Well with all these thoughts and many more I could understand why the thought of therapy could be scary to some.
However if these few things are what’s holding you back from feeling a sense of relieve, obtaining a better relationship or gaining self-improvement. Why not take that leap? Many times I will get calls or messages from clients wanting to more about the services I offer. When we speak they are always nervous about what to expect. Once they come in they are pleased however I speak to those few that go back and forth about if they should try therapy.
My suggestion is “let meet and walk through the initial experience together. If this is not a good fit we will look at other options”. I will have to say when they take that first step they are always pleased at the fact they did. It shows a level of trust they give to themselves and the willingness to see a difference in the current life struggles.
The best part about therapy is when you leave feeling like change is taking place. Change can only happen if you make the first step towards change. Weather its Couples therapy, Individual Therapy, Parenting/Family Therapy and etc. you can make that first step for yourself and gain the courage to change.
